TANGER to CHEFCHAOUEN
Your 4-day tour with Morocco Road Trips will begin with you being picked up from the airport, port or your accommodation in Tangier and being transferred to Chefchaouen, the Blue Pearl of Morocco. This journey will take you through the Rif Mountains and Tetouan where you will enjoy beautiful landscapes, until you reach the stunning village of Chefchaouen. The medina here has a Spanish-style square, surrounded by many funky art and craft shops, restaurants and cafes with roof terraces. You will spend the night in a hotel here.Day 2:
CHEFCHAOUEN to RABAT VIA ASSILAH
After breakfast you will begin your exploration of Chefchaouen, which welcomed the Muslim refugees from Granada in 1492 and after expulsion from Spain in 1648. This gives the Blue Pearl many similarities to Andalusian landscapes – the medina is steep on the back of the mountains, containing white and blue houses with Spanish-style patios. We will travel then to Assilah, which is a beautiful, quiet town on the Moroccan coast. Here, you will have some free time to stroll though the medina of white houses with artistic murals. In the afternoon, we will travel to Rabat which is the capital of the kingdom.Day 3:
RABAT to FES THOROUGH MEKNES, VOLUBILIS AND MOULAY IDRISS
After breakfast, you will visit the Mausoleum of Mohammed V – the striking kasbah of the Oudayas – and the walls of the Mechouar the surround the Royal Palace. We will then depart for Meknes, chosen by Sultan Moulay Ismail as the country’s Imperial Capital at the end of the 17th century. The city was built with 20 gates, more than 50 palaces and 15km of ramparts surrounding it. After lunch, we will travel to visit the Roman ruins of Volubilis with it’s mosaics and temples. Finally, we will continue our journey to Fes.Day 4:
FEZ GUIDED TOUR WITH LOCAL GUIDE.
After breakfast your guide will meet you at your riad and you will begin your tour of Morocco’s oldest Imperial City. Fes is an important religious, cultural and intellectual centre. You will start at the royal palace with its seven closed doors and then go to the Fes El Bali (the old medina). You will start in the Andalous Quarter to see the Andalous Mosque, which was built in the 9th century and then the Karaouinnes University which was built in 857AD. Afterwards you will go to the tanneries where you will see the process by which animal skins are rendered supple and rot-proof. After lunch, your driver will meet you outside the medina to drive you to see stunning, panoramic views of the medina from hills outside the city. Your driver will then drive you back to your riad.Day 5:
FEZ TO MERZOUGA SAHARA DESERT ( CAMEL RIDING) THROUGH AZRO AND ZIZ VALLEY
After breakfast we leave Fes towards Merzouga Sahara Desert, travelling through the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas Mountains, past Ifran and Azrou to Midelt where you will stop for lunch. Then we will continue, crossing the Ziz River and driving past thousands of sky-scraping palm trees and fortified kasbahs to Erfoud, and then on to Merzouga and Erg Chebbi. Here you will go camel trekking through the dunes to see the sunset and then spend the night in a traditional desert camp. You will have an authentic tagine for dinner, drink delicious mint tea, listen to traditional Berber music while watching the stars and the rising moon in the amazing Sahara Desert.Day 6:
MERZOUGA SAHARA DESERT TO DADES GORGES THROUGH ERFOUD AND TODRA GORGES
After an early morning wake-up call to watch the sun rising in the Sahara Desert (possibly one of the best moments of the trip!) you will ride your camel back to the hotel where you will have the opportunity to shower. Your guide will then continue your trip with you, first stopping in Rissani to visit the Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Chref, the founder of the Alaouit Dynasty. We will then travel to Erfoud to visit the fossilised marble factory before continuing to Touroug to explore the ancient underground irrigation system there. Your journey will continue to the stunning oasis of Tinghir where you will be able to have lunch and then take a walk along the Todgha riverbank visiting Berber villages and then experience some free walking in the Todgha Gorge. In the afternoon, after driving along the Dades Valley, you will arrive at your hotel in the Dades Gorge.Day 7:
DADES GORGES TO MARRAKECH VIA VALLEY OF ROSES, OUARZAZATE AND KASBAH AIT BEN HADOU – MARRAKECH
After breakfast, we continue our journey through the Roses Valley to Kalaa Mgouna where you will have the opportunity to visit one of the Rose Co-operatives and learn about how the locals prepare rose-scented perfumes based on distilled rose water. We will continue to Ouarzazate through the Skoura oasis which is famous for its palm groves. Then we will stop for lunch at Ait Ben Haddou, before visiting the kasbah there which is a UNESCO world heritage site – this is used as a location for many Hollywood movies and for fashion and commercial shooting. In the afternoon, our road trip will continue through the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n Tichka Pass, passing by many Berber villages with houses made from stone and mud. You will notice immediately that the way of life for locals here has not changed for centuries! We will arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon.Day 8:
: MARRAKECH – GUIDED TOUR WITH LOCAL GUIDE.
Your day with start with a guided tour of the old town of Marrakech, called the ‘Jewel of Morocco’ or the ‘Pearl of the South’. This includes a visit to the Koutoubia Mosque, the richly decorated tombs of the Saadian Dynasty, the Bahia Palace and the Koranic Madrasa. After lunch, you will continue exploring the Jamaa El Fna square, famous for its unique entertainers and the lively medina with its colourful souks or markets. Your tour will finish with a visit to the Jardin Majorelle.Day 9:
TRANSFER TO MARRAKECH AIRPORT
Depending on the time of your flight we will take you to Menara airport, to connect with your return flight.
